What Is Musical Technology?
Music technology is an ever-expanding field that has applications beyond just listening to music! There are many different components of music technology, some more practical than others. This article will go into detail about what people usually refer to as “music tech” and how it fits in relation to other fields.
Music technology can be broken down into three main areas: recording, production, and marketing/promotion. Each of these areas involves various skills such as writing for lyrics, composing new songs, mixing sounds together, and designing logos and graphics. Some of these skills are more related to one area or the other, but all play important roles in the music industry.
Recording includes things like microphones, software programs used to edit sound files (like GarageBand), and audio equipment used to mix and master recordings.
Production includes tasks such as writing lyrics, choosing musical pieces and styles, and finding someone to help with creative concepts for artwork and promotional material. Artists must have formal training in their craft before they can be considered professional, however there are plenty of resources online and through community groups to learn effective songwriting and producing.
Marketing includes skills such as graphic design, video editing, and social media usage to promote your artist profile and content.

A piece of equipment able to play or compose MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) files is referred to as a instrument or synth. Apps and programs designed to create, edit, and/or playback these files are called sequencers, samplers, or drum machines, depending on what kind of sounds they have at their disposal.
With the help of musical technology, anyone can make his or her own music! This seems like a crazy idea, but it’s true! The most basic way to use music creating apps is simply by tapping out a pattern or rhythm onto the device. You can then add notes to those patterns to make music, which we call composing.

There are many types of studios, such as professional ones that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars or personal ones that are much cheaper. No matter what kind of studio you have, know how to use it!
